HAL Koningsdam Day 4: Skagway | Solo Travel | Holland America Cruise VLOG

Hello Travelers, I boarded the Holland America Cruise line’s Koningsdam on September 10, 2022. This video shows day four of our cruise, where we visit Skagway. I went on an excursion to pan gold and pet dogs. Sounded like a good day to me! The bus met us at the dock, and we went off to a fun day. It was a short ride through town and out to their facility. They split the group in two and sent half off to play with dogs and half to do gold panning. I was in the gold panning group, and we had some instruction and then were turned loose with our own pans of pay dirt. After following the instructions to swirl around the dirt to get the gold to sink to the bottom, I ended up with a small amount of gold in the pan. Into my trusty film canister it went, and at the end we all went to the Assayer’s office and had our gold weighed out. They sold little glass containers that you could use as pendants to hold them (and of course sold the chains as well) and it made a nice keepsake of the excursion. Then we got our turn with the dogs. They let them out into the chute where they harnessed them to their sled, and away they went. The musher has a phrase (no, not “mush” as a trigger word for the dogs to run. Hers was “Alright”, and our announcer had to spell it or the dogs would have taken off prematurely. The dogs really enjoy their run, and afterwards, they brought out four girl puppies for us to cuddle. So much cuteness!
