***UPDATE*** ROYAL CARIBBEAN accepted this test for my 8/28/22 cruise on the Liberty of the Seas out of the Port of Galveston. Didn't raise any concerns about it at all. **************** Recently, there have been companies offering Covid test proctoring services. If you have ever needed to take a covid test for travel (airline or cruise) or for going to school, you may have encountered the option for having your test supervised by a health professional using the video camera on your computer, tablet or phone. It is a good alternative to having to find a place to have your test administered, and tended to be less expensive as well. I have used the BinaxNow Ag Card Home Test many times, including while on a cruise ship. The tests can be bought from emed.com directly or through the cruise lines themselves in a smaller quantity. However, they are not inexpensive. At the time of this video, the emed.com tests were running $150 for a pack of six plus overnight shipping. Many of us in the United States have been able to obtain the iHealth Covid-19 Antigen Rapid Tests from the government. They can also be purchased from Amazon.com at the cost of around $18 for a box of two tests. But since they arenβt proctored (supervised), they are not accepted by the travel vendors. Thatβs where the proctoring services come into play. In this video, I will use my unopened iHealth test (one appointment can be used by up to four people, so I am assuming that you can use both of the tests in each box if the proctor watches you open them) and the OnPoint Testing proctoring service. I walk you through the whole process, from signing up on the website, ordering the proctoring service, scheduling your zoom appointment and then having the test proctored and getting the results. I made my proctoring services purchase, and then sign up for an appointment. They had appointments for the same day, but I chose to do this test the next day. They send an order confirmation which has an order number in it that you will need to book your appointment. They also send you an email asking you to sign up for their patient portal, which is best done ahead of time as well. Once you have scheduled your zoom appointment, they will send you a calendar invite that contains both the zoom link and a site code. You will need the site code when you sign up for the patient portal. This is not the only company offering covid test proctoring services, as a quick google search will show. Just make certain if you choose a company that their results satisfy the requirements of your travel vendor or the destination requiring the test. In this video, I show you what the requirements are for Royal Caribbean cruise line, which is what I will be having my next cruise on. At the time of this video, I have a cruise scheduled for August 15th, and I am recording this in July, so I will have to do this again for the result to be useful for that sailing. I will update this video after that cruise and let you know if there was any problem with Royal Caribbean accepting the results. The Proctoring service costs $14.99 at the time of this video, and since I got the test kit for free from the government, it is a savings over the Binax tests. There has also been some supply chain problems with the Binax tests, and people were sometimes unable to even get one of their tests either from the cruise line or from emed.com. So this is an alternative if that comes to pass again. Have you used a proctoring service to make those iHealth tests more useful? If you did, please comment below and let me know if there was any issue with the travel vendor, who it was and when/where. If this video has been helpful, please give it a Like. If youβd like to subscribe to my channel, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for watching. Now let's get out there and cruise!
