About our Bacon Score methodology
YouTube Video Description

Hello Travelers, I was on the brand new Norwegian Prima cruise ship for a media and travel agent cruise. This video covers the third day on this short four day cruise. Today we were docked in Progresso, and I booked a ship’s shore excursion to see Chichen Itza. It is one of the modern wonders of the world, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit it on my first trip to this port. We had to be down on the dock at 8:15am, so I just got up a bit early and grabbed breakfast from the buffet and brought it to my cabin. We arrived a little bit late to port, but it wasn’t a problem. This was by far the most popular excursion, and the line was very long. However, it moved quite quickly, since they had lots of busses ready for us all to use. The bus was clean and comfortable and the air conditioning was excellent. All important things when you are going to be stuck on a bus for most of the day. It also had a restroom on the bus. It was about a 2 hour drive to get to the site, and our guide passed out two tickets per person to get inside. I don’t know why two, but they were for different things, and it worked out fine. The guide also mentioned that there is a separate extra charge if you have a GoPro specifically ($3, so not a large fee). I had seen videos on YouTube before about people bringing high end cameras and equipment and being turned away because it required a permit (but nobody was able to find out how to obtain a permit). So I knew to leave the higher end camera on the ship, along with my tripod (which was also mentioned as being a problem). I didn’t want to chance being turned away or made to store the equipment back on the bus. Once we entered the park, along with a lot of other people, I lost track of my group. Luckily, our guide was very clear while we were still on the bus what time we had to be back just in case we got separated. So while I didn’t get the benefit of the history and context of the site, I still enjoyed my time there immensely. I do warn you though, that sun is no joke. I saw people using umbrellas, and I was wishing I had one too to help keep the sun off me. I had used sunscreen and bug spray, but the sun was so bad that I got to the point where I knew if I didn’t get into some shade and get some more liquids in me, I was going to be in serious trouble with heat stroke. There was shade on the perimeter of the site, not near the pyramid, as you can see in the video. While I would have like to spend more time on the other sides of the pyramid that I didn’t get footage of as much, there was just no way I could go back out into the sun again for any length of time. The vendors were largely selling the same items. Lots of replicas of the mayan calendar, of the pyramid, and of course, “whistles” that would make the sound of a jaguar or some of the local birds. But strangely they weren’t selling water or other drinks. I can only imagine it isn’t allowed, because they’re missing a large amount of sales. I did eventually find a place that had two tables and chairs, and sold water and soda. I got a sprite there, and it helped with both the liquid and calories. Once I got the driver’s attention, he was happy to let me into the bus to cool down, even though the rest of the group didn’t show up for a while. Once we were on our way back, our guide handed out our “box lunch” which came in a bag, and consisted of a prepackaged sandwich, a snack bar and an apple. They had given us small bottles of water when we first got off the bus, but didn’t have enough to do that with the lunches. He did have a couple of 2 liter bottles of Coke, and some plastic cups and everyone had that option instead. Dinner was in the buffet, where they have a wood fired pizza oven cranking out some really good pizza. Please like this video and subscribe to my channel to make sure you don’t miss future content. I have more videos for this cruise, as well as future cruises booked through the rest of this year and beyond. Thanks for watching!
