YouTube Video Description

On September 10, 2021 I set sail on Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas for a seven day Alaska cruise visiting Juneau, Skagway and Sitka, plus the Dawes glacier. This is embarkation day for the cruise. I flew into Seattle on Alaska Airlines, and this video begins with the trek through the airport to get my bags. I purchased airport transfers, but was not given a receipt for it. My flight also arrived an hour early, so I knew that there would not be anyone meeting me at baggage claim, as the customer service rep indicated. So I simply followed the signs that read Charter/Cruise bus and found my way to the check in area for airport transfers. I was not on their list, but as I knew the amount I had been charged, they waived me through on faith. They give you a colored square of paper and when they call that color, it is your turn to get on the bus. I was probably waiting around half an hour at most. The busses were apparently running a bit late as the drivers were getting lost between the staging area and the pickup location. That is what the person from the bus company told us after we boarded. The drive to the port was nice, in that we wound our way through downtown Seattle a bit. Eventually we arrived at the cruise terminal and there were lines for people who had made it on time for their appointments. As my flight was early, I was also early for my appointment and had to wait in a long line. People would come by periodically and call out times, and then you would be pulled out of the long line and allowed to go to the shorter line in front of the building. There they would check your documents—passports, boarding pass and covid vaccination proof and test results. We had to have a negative Covid test within 3 days of the sailing. It has since been changed to two days. I used the proctored test from home and that was just fine. If you are not familiar with that test, here is the video I made about it: https://youtu.be/FvAgj2vHb6s. Once inside the building, there were additional shorter queues to join. There your documents would again be checked. If you have your data just on your phone, keep in mind it is a good idea to take a picture of your boarding pass and your test results. The cell service was spotty inside the building, and having a picture is a good fallback. Once checked, you go up to the next level and go through your security check point. Then it is one last check of just the boarding pass, and you are off to the ship! Once on the ship, they direct you to your muster station right away, where you get a very short informational talk and you are checked in as having completed your safety drill. It is so much easier than they use to be! Please like this video and subscribe to my channel to make sure you don’t miss future content. I have more videos for this cruise, as well as future cruises booked through the rest of this year and beyond. Thanks for watching!
